Sunday is here again

It's Sunday once again, and once again there was a blind draw at the Crowe Bar.


I can't really tell you a lot about it this time because well, I didn't go. I went out for karaoke on Friday AND Saturday so I wasn't really up for more beer and shuffleboard.


I did get a text from my husband Kevin and he and his partner won.


We're off this Wednesday from league shuffleboard, it's mid season. We've already gotten the new schedule and our first game of the second half is against the VFW Flyers at the Crowe Bar. They beat us on their board so we really want to get them back on ours!

Oh Yeah!

Woohoo!! My partner Kevin (yup my hubby!) and I won the blind draw on Sunday! Shibby! We only had 8 players. Well, technically we had 7 players but we talked Buddy into playing to make 8.


We probably had no less than 6 ties in the final game. Kevin would score one so I wouldn't have the hammer and Mark who I was playing against would tie it up with one. It went back and forth forever it seemed. But finally Kevin and I pulled it out.


To make the day even better (well, for me at least) I won 3 Strikes!


It's been several weeks where we have been struggling to get blind draw players so I don't know how long our Sunday blind draws are going to last. But it was fun while it lasted.


This Wednesday is our final game of the first half of the season and for the 3rd week in a row we play at home. We play the Stafford Sandblasters and I probably don't need to say it but, I want to win!!

Sundays at the Bar

It's Sunday yet again and time for a blind draw. Last Sunday was Mother's Day so we decided not to head up to the bar.

But it's a new day, so we'll head up to the Crowe Bar, throw some pucks, and hope to beat out all of the other players. I definitely could use the cash (who couldn't, right?).

And after losing on Wednesday, I could use the practice too!

SUNDAY! SUNDAY! SUNDAY!

It's Sunday once again and time to go to the bar to practice shuffleboard in a blind draw tournament. Our team spends the next 3 weeks playing at home so I definitely want to get some practice in. The Crowe bar had a chili cook-off yesterday so I'm not sure if we'll get enough people to play today. I hope so.

Way to go Mom! She was the big winner today! She won the blind draw with her partner Dot and won 3 strikes.

Blind Draw Awesomeness

Woohoo! We had 10 people play in our Sunday blind draw yesterday afternoon. I guess that's going to be the average of people that we will get to play. And that's fine by me. With 10 players the pot is usually $75 with the first place team splitting $50 and the second place team splitting $25. This week - Mom and I split the $50!

My hubby Kevin won 3 strikes. He wins a lot! But the best part of the day was after we were done playing shuffleboard.

For some weeks now, Kevin has been running shotgun pots on various professional and college sports to raise money for a flat screen TV for the bar. A shotgun pot is a card with 10 lines printed on it. You pay however much, write your name on a line and once the card is filled, there is a little "pull-tab" on the left. Pull this off to reveal your number. That's the number that you want whatever sports your watching to finish on. Say for instance you got a 9 as your number and you're watching basketball. The game ends and the score is 109 to 110. You take the last digits of both scores and add it together. It's a 9 so... YOU WIN!

Anyways, back to the best part of the day/night (besides winning!). Kevin brought a big box from his truck. It was our new 46" flat screen TV! We pulled everything out from behind the shuffleboard table, took all of the flags off the wall and hung that bad boy up! Now all that is left is to run some cables, sit back and enjoy!

It's been a week since the Crowe Barflies have played shuffleboard. It's week four of the season but it's our 3rd game. I still don't have any good voodoo so I'll most likely just make it up as I go along. We have to head over to Hunter's Pub to play on Wednesday. Do i need to say it? I really want to win!

It's Sunday once again and once again time for the Sunday shuffleboard blind draw. How many players will we get this week? Well, there will be at least two. I hope we get a good turnout. Kevin and I stayed out last night a wee bit longer than we had originally planned so we are a bit sluggish this morning. What am I talking about? I'm always sluggish in the mornings. Soon, I'll get my ass in gear, jump in the shower and head to the bar for some hair of the dog. I need the shuffleboard practice anyway.

Lucky Number 13

We had a whopping 13 people show up for our Easter blind draw yesterday. I think that's the most we've had since we started back up after football season. When we have an uneven number, we do what is called a "buy back". In yesterday's case, the odd man out drew a 7 and didn't know who his partner was until after the first round of games were over. Then any person who had lost their game has the option to put their name in the hat (well draw another card) to play again. The person who draws the highest card pays another $5 and gets another chance to play.

Thanks to my mother-in-law Pat's delicious beans, my partner Ken and I won the blind draw! She told me that if I ate those beans, I would win the tournament. My husband, Kevin, who also ate the magic beans took second place with his partner! What a happy Easter!

So our team has a bye this week (which means we don't play) but Kevin's team, the Crowe Wildpuckers play at home. So I'll be at the bar, rooting for my hubby and the rest of the Wildpuckers. Go Wildpuckers!

Well it's Easter Sunday and we are about to head to the bar to see if anyone will show up for our Sunday blind draw. Hopefully someone besides us will. We did have a few people ask if there was going to be one so we'll keep our fingers crossed.

Practice in the form of a Blind Draw

My husband Kevin and I host a shuffleboard blind draw at the bar we play for (did I mention that we are on separate teams). Anyone who wants to play pays $5 and we draw cards to partner up. Recently we've only had about 8 people playing but that's okay. You only have to win one game and you're in the money. 



We've started to play a game called 3 Strikes afterwards. 3 Strikes is a lagging game (which I'm not very good at, I'm a knock-off player). In this game you have three pucks of one color - your scorers, and one of the opposite color - your multiplier. The object of this game is to score higher than the person in front of you and if you don't you get a strike. We also use the long or deep foul line for this game which can make it a little trickier. Another aspect of the game is that wherever the pucks are, that's where you throw from. If you play this game long enough, you'll start to favor certain sides of certain boards.


The first person throws. Let's say his name is Bob. Bob throws three blue pucks and they are all in the one point range. Then he throws his red puck and it lands on a two. So Bob has scored a six. Mary is after Bob and needs a seven to not get a strike. She scores a four so gets her first strike. Now Sarah is after Mary and needs a five and so on and so on. The last person standing takes the pot.


Of course higher scores are decidedly hard to beat (well for me) but I would say the hardest score to get is a four. You have to keep all of your scorers on the table past the foul line and get one all the way up to a two. Like with a regular shuffleboard game, there are lots of thank yous thrown around when low scores are scored.


Come to think of it, I don't think I have ever won 3 Strikes. Maybe today will be my lucky day.
